On 12 April 2021, China Communication Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd, the EPCC Contractor for the Malaysia East Coast Rail Link Project was issued the Certificate of Approval for their Integrated Management System (IMS). This Certificate, issued by Lloyd’s Register, confirms that CCC (ECRL) Sdn Bhd’s IMS meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2015. As the EPCC Contractor for the currently largest project in South East Asia, we are proud to be the recipient of this prestigious certification from a world class and international Certification Body.
Our journey began late August 2020 where our top management instituted an internal ISO project management team to ensure the smooth development and implementation of the IMS. This team consisted of representatives from HQ and the site section teams. Despite the challenges and restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 epidemic, this team was able to undertake all necessary activities to ensure IMS certification in a relatively short period of less than 8 months when considering the size of a mega project such as the ECRL. This could be attributed to the fact that the Contractor had earlier on implemented some procedures and process that were generally compliant to the 3 IMS standards. Nonetheless, a lot of work still had to be done to create and implement additional procedures to ensure 100% meeting the IMS ISO standards’ requirements. It was the dedication by project management team members and due to a lot of late night and weekend work knowing that the target completion date could not be changed.
The Stage 1 Audit was from 04 to 05 February whilst Stage 2 Audit was from 24 to 31March 2021. The dedicated Contractors staff worked tirelessly to ensure that outcomes from both audits were successful and met the Certification Body’s exacting high standards.
Whilst success was achieved, CCC ECRL Sdn Bhd will not rest on his laurels but continue to ensure that all three IMS standard requirements will continue to be maintained by carrying out promotion, awareness, training and audits. Top management will continue to promote the IMS implementation and ensure China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd maintains certification to ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2015.
